Authors performed sonographic examination in 13 patients with pyogenic and 5 patients with tuberculous bone infections.
Sonographic findings of pyogenic infection were flat fluid collection next to bones (12), sinus tract (4) and sequestrum (3) Sonographic findings of tuberculous infection were extensive fluid collection (4), multiple minute foci of calcification
within
abscess (1), finger-like projections and multiple septae within the fluid collection (1).
Sonography was useful in the detection of soft tissue change in bone infection and in the differentiation of pyogenic and tuberculous infection.
